I think nothing underscores the Palin Fear-Factor better
than the fact that Oprah will not even allow Palin on her show. This goes
beyond partisan-ship. This goes to censorship. This goes to outright fear of
the comparison with her political choice - she knows in her heart that Palin's
story of real struggle as a woman with no political ties or assistance versus
Obama's story of coziness with despicable, shady, mob-like characters (Oprah
knows the Chicago political machine better than most) will destroy Obama.
If any woman ever had any illusions about Oprah's motivations,
this incident should serve to pull the blinders off. Sarah Palin is the
closest approximation to every feminist ideal that this country has ever seen,
*INCLUDING* Oprah (Oprah has no husband and no family - Palin has it *ALL*).
The life of Sarah Palin is the ultimate woman's issue, but Sarah is not even a
curiosity to Oprah. No one can ignore this amazing disconnect.
Oprah knows that the inevitable comparison between Obama and
Palin will heavily favor Palin, so it is not surprising that she punted. This is her prerogative. In doing so, however, Oprah
displays zero courage in her own convictions and a stunning lack of confidence
in Obama, resulting in this ringing anti-endorsement of Obama. OBAMA SIMPLY
DOES NOT MEASURE UP! Nevertheless, he is black, and that's as far as Oprah
goes.
If anyone still believes that Oprah is the least bit
interested in real women's issues, you need to have your head examined. Oprah is clearly
only in this for the money and the political power. (Well, that's how it appears, anyway.) Yes - the classical definition
of a Liberal. Women are simply a means to fattening those bank accounts.
Obama is bought and paid for by the "blame America
first" crowd. Apparently, it was a very good investment since they got a
"twofer"! Just like we got Hilary when we elected Bill, they got
Oprah when they only paid for Obama. My fellow Americans, we should be very
afraid. Anti-Americanism is becoming a viable political force with a dedicated
champion in the Democratic Party.
Not being a woman and not being a viewer myself, I used to
think Oprah's show was a great stage for women's issues, when viewed at a distance. Now, looking a little closer, not only do I see
Obama as an empty suit (for contrast, see my posts hoping Obama fulfilled my
own dreams for blacks in politics), but I get to see another of my icons
toppled as well. Oprah had it going on, or so I always thought. I just never had cause to examine that core belief before. But now she's behaving like just another liberal
(money with political power "uber alles").
Oprah's political judgment is now just as suspect as
Obama's. It’s now in her best interests to see to it that Palin never meets her
audience, or else her audience will learn just how clueless Oprah is
politically. After the election is over, I suspect that Palin will demonstrate
grace and poise and agree to appear on the hostile Oprah's show, despite this
overt snub.
Oprah could have avoided all this by keeping her political
opinions to herself. Now that she has clearly taken sides, she is just as open
to criticism as anyone else who takes a political stand.
Obama pursued political office then chose not to perform his
duties (i.e. voting his conscience). Likewise, Oprah chose to become a
political figure. Then, having promoted her candidate on her show to her
audience (women), she chose not to ever give equal time to any of his
opponents. This is her right, but she is wrong to believe that she, alone,
should be exempted from the consequences of taking a political stand.
Oprah slanted the political game in favor of her preferred
candidate. That is simple fact. The only problem here is Oprah's obvious and brazen
dishonesty about what she has done. Oprah's current take on the whole situation
is the equivalent of "I never inhaled".
Look, Oprah - if you don't have confidence in your
convictions or in your candidate, just say so. Most people will understand.
